About This Safari
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Your premium mountain expedition begins with a private morning pickup from your boutique hotel by your dedicated Beryx guide. Enjoy a scenic 3 to 4-hour drive around the western base of the mountain to the Londorossi Gate for official registration formalities. From the gate, a short drive brings us to the remote Lemosho trailhead. Step out onto the trail, immediately entering a vibrant, undisturbed tropical rainforest. Hike along a winding path beneath giant, moss-draped trees while listening for the unique calls of exotic birds and watching for black-and-white colobus monkeys. Arrive at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp by late afternoon to find your private campsite fully pitched and waiting.
Accommodation: Mti Mkubwa Campsite
Meals: Lunch & Chef-Prepared Dinner Included (Purified mountain water, hot teas, and coffees)
Awaken to hot morning drinks served straight to your tent. Today's trek leads you up out of the dense forest canopy, transitioning into a striking moorland landscape dominated by giant heather, wild grasses, and unique volcanic rock formations. As you navigate the rolling ridges and cross several clear mountain streams, you will ascend the western rim of the Shira Caldera before dropping gently onto the expansive Shira Plateau. Here, on a clear afternoon, you will catch your first inspiring glimpse of Kibo's snow-capped peak standing far across the high valley.
Accommodation: Shira 1 Campsite
Meals: All Meals & Non-Alcoholic Beverages Included
Today is an exceptional acclimatization day that sets the Lemosho Route apart from all others. You will embark on a gentle trek eastward across the sweeping moorland meadows of the plateau, bypassing the busy main camp paths. Diverting northwest, the trail ventures into a rugged alpine landscape toward Moir Hut — a quiet, rarely visited outpost set into a protected volcanic bowl at the base of the Lent Hills. Later in the afternoon, take an optional acclimatization walk up into the nearby hills to look out over the northern circuit slopes before settling into camp for a peaceful night under the stars.
Accommodation: Moir Hut Campsite (Exclusive, low-crowd location)
Meals: All Meals & Non-Alcoholic Beverages Included
Today perfectly demonstrates the classic mountaineering rule: "Climb high, sleep low." You will ascend a steady, wind-swept volcanic ridge heading southeast into the alpine desert, pointing toward the massive Lava Tower (4,630m) — a spectacular 300-foot volcanic rock formation. Enjoy a hot, nourishing lunch at the base of the tower, allowing your body to adapt to the thin air. Afterward, begin a beautiful descent down into the dramatic Barranco Valley. This sheltered glen is famous for its towering cliffs and groves of prehistoric giant groundsels (Senecio plants).
Accommodation: Barranco Campsite
Meals: All Meals & Non-Alcoholic Beverages Included
Your morning begins with the most exciting trail challenge on the mountain: scaling the grand Barranco Wall. While it looks imposing from camp, it is an incredibly fun, non-technical scramble that simply requires using your hands and feet on secure rock paths. At the top of the wall, enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the southern ice fields and Heim Glacier. From here, follow a series of ridges through the alpine desert, descending briefly into the green Karanga Valley before climbing up to Karanga Camp. This shorter day is intentionally designed to give your muscles a break and maximize your rest.
Accommodation: Karanga Campsite
Meals: All Meals & Non-Alcoholic Beverages Included
Following breakfast, you will leave Karanga Camp behind to hit the trail junction that connects with the Mweka descent path. The trail climbs steadily up a bleak, wind-swept volcanic ridge, completing the spectacular Southern Circuit of the mountain. Arrive at Barafu Camp (4,673m) by early afternoon. Your crew will have camp safely pitched along a narrow, rocky ridge. Take in the inspiring views of Mawenzi and Kibo looming directly above your tent. Enjoy an early 5:00 p.m. dinner, double-check your thermal layers and headlamp, and get into your sleeping bag for crucial sleep before the midnight call.
Accommodation: Barafu Base Camp
Meals: All Meals & Non-Alcoholic Beverages Included
Your wake-up call sounds at midnight. Under a vast, star-lit African sky, your ultimate physical and mental challenge begins. Trekking by the faint glow of your headlamp, you will ascend the steep switchbacks of the scree slopes toward the crater rim. As dawn breaks, reach Stella Point (5,756m) on the rim, rewarded by a brilliant sunrise illuminating the clouds below. Pushing onward past massive, glowing glacial walls for another hour, you will stand triumphant at Uhuru Peak (5,895m / 19,341ft) — the absolute Roof of Africa! After celebrating your victory and capturing your iconic photos, begin the descent back down to Barafu Camp for a brief rest and a warm lunch. Pack your gear and continue downward through the heather zones to the thick air of Mweka Camp for a well-deserved, celebratory sleep.
Accommodation: Mweka Campsite
Meals: All Meals & Hot Summit Refreshments Included
Your final morning on the mountain begins with a heartwarming farewell song and celebration dance from your dedicated Beryx mountain crew. Descend smoothly through the lush, oxygen-rich depths of the tropical rainforest for 3 to 4 hours. Arriving at Mweka Gate, officially sign the national park register and receive your personalized Kilimanjaro Gold Certificate. Your private Beryx vehicle will meet you at Mweka Village to drive you back to Arusha to your hotel, where a hot shower, a cold drink, and a celebratory dinner await.
